Hwoarang is a Tae Kwon Do student of Baek Doo San who enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 seeking revenge against Ogre for apparently murdering his teacher. He is a new character introduced in Tekken 3, part of the largely new cast that includes Jin Kazama and Ling Xiaoyu. Hwoarang's rivalry with Jin Kazama begins during a street fight before the tournament, where the two fought to a draw, leading to a persistent rivalry. Hwoarang is a student of Baek Doo San, a master of Tae Kwon Do. When his teacher is apparently murdered by the mysterious creature known as Ogre, Hwoarang enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 seeking revenge. Before the tournament, he gets into a street fight with Jin Kazama, which ends in a draw, sparking a persistent rivalry between the two. Hwoarang is one of the competitors that Heihachi Mishima secretly uses as bait to lure Ogre out into the open, alongside Jin, Ling Xiaoyu, and the rest of the competitors.
In Their Own Story
Hwoarang's story begins with the disappearance of his teacher, Baek Doo San, at the hands of Ogre. Driven by a desire for revenge, he enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. His path crosses with Jin Kazama in a street fight before the tournament, where they fight to a draw, establishing a rivalry. During the tournament, Jin defeats Hwoarang in a narrow, hours-long battle. Unbeknownst to Hwoarang, he is being used as bait by Heihachi Mishima to lure Ogre.
